Want to Avoid The Disappointment of Not Meeting Your Goals? Here's How to Make Your Resolutions A Great Success
We’re only 1 week away from 2020, you guys! This year went by so fast, I can hardly believe it’s about to be over.
This is also the time for setting New Year Resolution. Have you set yours? If you haven’t already, keep on reading because I want to share what we found truly helpful and how we’ve been setting our resolution, so next year at this time, you’ll feel so proud looking back at a year filled with progress, action, and results!
Terrie and I had just completed our New Year resolutions here at Olea & Fig. Here’s how we break down our 2020 Resolution:
#1 Annual Resolutions
Think about what you want to have achieved, started, or even eliminated by the end of 2020?
Is it hiring 2 more team members? Doubling sales? Increasing all your offers by 50 percent? Becoming so productive that you only have to work 4 days a week? Moving to a new office space? Having built an engaging community? Opening your pilates studio?
#2 Quarterly Resolutions
Let’s reverse engineer this from your annual goals. What would you need to do every quarter to accomplish your annual goals?
If you plan on doubling your sales by the end of the year, perhaps you would set a routine to launch something new every quarter, or a goal to double your mailing list every quarter or speak as a podcast guest, etc.
If you need to hire 2 more team members, maybe this means you need to set a routine and a specific amount of time to support and train new members every quarter.
To increase your productivity and the quality of your work, you may consider doing a team trip every quarter, or set a routine to have a prioritization meeting every quarter to make sure you are on track, growing and doing the things that matter and are effective.
To build a community, you might consider hosting or sponsoring an event or trade shows every quarter or every 2 quarters.
#3 Monthly Resolution
Now, what would you commit to monthly to achieve your annual and quarterly resolutions?
If you’re looking to increase pricing on your offers or double your marketing, maybe you’d consider investing in 20 percent of your time and marketing budget on self education.
If you’re planning to move to a new office by the end of the year, perhaps this means you need to spend 10 percent of every month working on the logistics needed for you to find your dream office space and iron out all the details.
If you’re looking to expand your business and partner up with a non-profit for a cause you believe in, setting aside 15 percent every month to build that partnership.
#4 Weekly Resolution
Are there any new weekly routine you’d like to build into your business or yourself?
This may be as simple as sending out 1 email per week, showing up on Instagram Stories 3 times a week, posting on social media of your choice 3 times a week, writing blog post twice a month, creating 1 video every month, 1 podcast episode every other week, go out for a run once a week, read for 2 hours every week, or eat out only twice a week etc. Basically whatever suits you and helps you make progress and baby but meaningful steps!
These can also be habits that help your adopt a healthier mindset or lifestyle. For instance, to exercise 5 days a week, or cut down your work hours to 25 hours max per week.
#5 NO Daily Resolution
Okay, so, the reason why I don’t like setting Daily Resolution or goals or to-do’s is because I find it harder for me to enjoy the process and actually meeting these goals if I restrict myself to specific tasks every day. From my experience, I found that it’s extremely more productive to keep my days flexible throughout the week.
Instead of doing a daily to-do’s or daily goal lists, I’d like to set my goals on a weekly basis. Life happens. We should eliminate any negative feelings about ourselves if for some reason we don’t have enough time to read, exercise, or complete this one task today. Introduce flexibility into your schedule by targeting weekly growth and results instead.
