When done effectively, using a set of consistent and beautiful brand photos across all your marketing channels creates cohesiveness, leaves a great impression on anyone who comes in contact with your business, and enhances your brand.

While planning for a photoshoot for your brand and brainstorming different creative ideas may be fun and invigorating, the planning process can get overwhelming. You not only have to put together the team, but you’re usually also the project manager who needs to communicate with all the professionals who are involved. Things can get hectic especially if you are working on this photoshoot on top of everything else that needs to get done in your business. (Read this post to learn the 3 steps to stay productive & stop feeling overwhelmed)

Now, if you are about to have your first brand photoshoot soon, or if you are dreading your next one coming up because of how stressful your last photoshoot was, here are the 5 simple foolproof steps to help you have a successful brand photoshoot:

Step 1: Find the Right photographer

Do your research and ask for the photographer’s website, portfolio, and social media, and see if the photographer’s work aligns with your vision and your brand. It would be much easier for you and the photographer to create photos that you both love if he or she is already familiar with the photo style you want. Otherwise, there will likely be creative differences that come up as you move forward with planning your photoshoot.

Step 2: Know what shots you want

Brainstorm and communicate the specific shots you want with the photographer. Consider using Pinterest to create a board of inspiration and talking through it with the photographer so you are both on the same page. If you want to get more organized, create a shot list with the photographer so he or she has a guideline to go off of during the photoshoot.

If you are doing product photography, remember to also decide on how many photos you want for individual products and how many you need for having them altogether.

Step 3: Ask for recommendations

Not sure which studio to book for the photoshoot? Debating between different ideas? Or not knowing what else or who else you need to consider and bring to the team? Ask the photographer.

You don’t know what you don’t know. Since the photographer is a professional who probably has done this many times, he or she would know a lot more about the different things to consider when it comes to choosing the right venue and the right people that best fit your needs and ideas.

Step 4: Have a schedule

Set a schedule for the day of the photoshoot, including when to arrive at the studio, when the photoshoot starts, when changes happen, and when it should be complete. Make sure this is sent to everyone who is involved and get their confirmation before the photoshoot. This sets clear expectations for everyone and helps minimize delay on the day of the photoshoot.

Step 5: Be yourself

If you will be in the photos, choose makeup and hairstyle that makes you feel amazing and at ease. There is no need to have a stunning but over-the-top hairdo or red carpet glam makeup that you never wear. When you feel comfortable and great, you’ll get the best shots. Go with whichever look makes you feel beautiful and confident.

Don’t forget to put on your favorite playlist and stay hydrated during the photoshoot!
